TU8 still at 790 for this month's Bank of America update on the 19th. [Edit: Update December 2023 : TransUnion FICO 8 score is now 790 at 2 years and 5 months in on a brand new credit file with a single revolving, bankcard account. Reporting utilization is exactly 4% of a $1,500 credit limit: $60.00. [Edit: Update April 2023 : TransUnion FICO 8 score is now 788 at 1 year and 9 months in on a brand new credit file with a single revolving, bankcard account. [Edit: Update December 2022 : TransUnion FICO 8 score is now 778 at 1 year and 5 months in on a brand new credit file with a single revolving, bankcard account. Link to Post Bank of America updated my friend's TransUnion FICO 8 score on January 20th. Technically, she reached the 6 month threshold on January 1, having opened her BoA card on July 31, 2021. ( For general public information: FICO counts from the 1st of the month in which you applied and were approved for an account.) So here it is: 1 single credit card account on a clean credit file that is only 6 months old. (EDIT: Reported utilization is 4% of a $1,500 credit limit. ($64/1500 = 4.3%, which is 4% since FICO uses standard midpoint rounding.) Also keep in mind that this score includes a single inquiry from BoA when she applied for this card. A single inquiry in the first year of having a credit file can easily cost 10-20 points! I saw this on my own file when I got my first 2 credit cards: -20 points on EX8 for the first inquiry! TransUnion (TU) FICO 8 score is 750 !! Note that TU has her only inquiry so far, and later we found out that a single inquiry cost -21 points. [ Link to report here , showing the jump from 750 to 771 after the single inquiry aged to 1 year. ] This is a typical loss for new credit files! It doesn't happen to much older files, where the loss can be only 1-3 points. This first credit score could have been 771 on the TransUnion version of the FICO 8 score model. (Each CRA has some customization done on the base model for product differentiation.) tu8-1_card_at_-6mo-jan22-full.png This answers some commonly searched for questions: When will I have a credit score? Very cool, @Cassie . Do you know what the reported balance/utilization is on that card, which of course would then also be equal to aggregate utilization? I know the common recommendation given to many newcomers to credit is to grab 3 cards and a loan to start out, but I think it's worth referencing this thread to show that it's not necessary for a very nice score. I fully get that when such a recommendation is given it's with the intent to try an begin to optimize early on... but it's definitely not a requirement for a mid 700's score right out of the gate as seen above.

Utilization reported at that score was: 64/1500 = 0.0426 = 4.3% = 4% for FICO scoring. Based on what I found on my own file in the first 2 years, that's in the optimal 1-4% range. (5% aggregate utilization would consistently cause a loss of -3 points on my TU/EQ8 in the first 2 years of having revolving accounts.) Plus, you also had 1 card with an 800 score for a while, right?

Her TU VS3 score is currently 705, but VS3 has the age of account at 5 months instead of FICO's 6 months. There is something else I completely forgot about: That 750 TU8 score has 1 inquiry included in it, and inquiries carry a very high penalty on new credit files! It can easily be -15 points and most certainly is not 'a small handful of points' as commonly reported in most articles on the internet. EQ VS3, without the single inquiry, is 720 compared to TU VS3 at 705 with the 1 inquiry. So -15pts for 1 inq on VS3. VS3 does not always backdate to the 1st of the month as FICO does. I saw this on my own file, as my VS3 age is always 1 month behind FICO's. So she will reach 6mo for VS3 in February - a month after FICO reached it this month in January.

Yes, for years. I did have a few installment loan accounts though... usually just 1 open and a couple closed, generally speaking. I didn't monitor my scores back then, so the only time I'd ever see my score really was when apping for credit and finding out at that time what it was. Scores were typically in the 790-800 range with that 1 CC.

Even better! Have you tried to grab a non-TU 8 score like EX8 from creditscorecard yet? If there's no inquiry on that bureau it would be cool to see what that score is. Is there any plan to add another account prior to that account hitting 1 year of age, or will scorecard reassignment happen at that time? Around 6 months from now it would be interesting if scores are pulled at the right times to see A - the impact of scorecard reassignment and B - the quantification of that 1 inquiry becoming unscoreable.

Now I'm really curious to see how close to 800, at 1 year AoOA, someone can get with a single revolving account on file. She doesn't want anything 'complicated' at this point, so we will probably see that result in July 2022. I'm going to try again to convince her to let me set up FICO monitoring for 1 month so we can get a complete 28-score snapshot at this 6 month threshold. Experian now gives away a free monthly EX8 score right on their main website, experian.com. She should get that too, because it comes with some basic credit file monitoring. A few months prior to getting my last 2 cards in February 2020, I had disabled auto-renew on my paid Experian CreditWorks monitoring, so it reverted to the basic free version. But that free version still alerted me instantly the night I applied with Amex and Discover, AND it even came with an updated EX8 score, showing the point loss! So I was able to see -3 for the 1st Amex inq, and -8 for the Discover inq that followed! That's pretty good for free basic monitoring! (FICO Premier alerts showed up 2 days later, but with -11 for the total loss on EX8.)

Later this month (July 2022), we're going to see the TransUnion FICO 8 score at 1 year on a brand-new file with a single bankcard revolving account and 1 inquiry.

AND THEN next month (August 2022), when Bank of America updates the TU8 score again, we'll see what that single inquiry cost!

There will be no score gain with aging from 1yr0mo to 1yr1mo, but the single inquiry will have aged to 1 year on July 31st. She'll be inquiry free and util will be at 4% (Around $60), same as this month's report.

EDIT: I forgot to add....she has been getting a LOT of postal mail from Discover over the past 3 months!

Less than 24 hours away from getting an absolute perfectly clean data point on a single revolving bankcard account aging to 1 year on a brand-new credit file. I can't wait! Anyone wanna place a bet on the gain? The BoA provided TU8 score has been at 750 since a score could be calculated at 6 months. I'll go with 765.
